Edinburgh has a vast selection of amazing eateries, and a vast selection who cater for vegans. There are dedicated restaurants and cafes for vegetarians/vegans, and also lots of places who either have a separate vegetarian/vegan menu, a dairy-free selection, or are happy to adjust a dish to suit. Below are some of the places that we have found to be fabulous!
This gorgeous Scandinavian-inspired cafe combines oats and grains with fresh natural ingredients to create delicious porridge and granola bowls. Also serving tasty soup, yummy cake, and amazing coffee.

Vegan cafe in the Grassmarket serving healthy, clean, raw and delicious food. Drop in for your breakfast, lunch or coffee and cake.
Gourmet vegetarian and vegan restaurant. The menu is globally-inspired, and the dishes are clearly marked V for vegan, and many can be made vegan on request.

Established in 1962 Hendersons has become an Edinburgh institution. Serving freshly prepared vegetarian and vegan dishes made from the best organic ingredients that are in season.

No need to reserve a table for dinner here (unless there are more than 6 in your party), and you can enjoy Indian food with a good vegetarian selection, and vegan options too. They even have dedicated dairy and gluten-free menus.

Paradise Palms is a cool, relaxed bar – also being a vegetarian restaurant, event venue, vinyl store, and a record label. They have great vegan choices too.

Kalpna serves traditional Indian vegetarian food – the owner is passionate about vegetarian and vegan lifestyles. Expect Punjabi, Gujrati and South Indian delicacies.
2-3 St Patrick Square
Vegetarian Italian restaurant, with great vegan options including vegan spaghetti carbonara and vegan pizza. If you have room for desert, then don’t miss their peanut butter and jam cheesecake – it’s delicious!
Novapizza Vegetarian Kitchen

Holy Cow is 100% vegan, organic and fairtrade. Their menu uses seasonal local products, and the burgers here are amazing!
34 Elder Street
A South African cafe and bakery that offers a good selection of tasty vegan dishes. They also have an entire menu of vegan burgers – yes, you read that correct!
The Caffeine Drip

Whilst not a dedicated vegetarian or vegan restaurant, they do have a good selection on their menu. Best of all, they hold monthly vegan nights on the first Wednesday of each month!
Bread Street Brasserie

Expect pub food here – good pub food, in giant portions! Try The Hoose Gigantic Nachos – they are vegan, and delicious. There are excellent vegan options on the menu including hotdogs, cooked breakfast, falafel burger, chilli, burrito and many more. Oh, and don’t get us started on the amazing onion rings!

Hula is a lovely juice bar and cafe serving fresh produce, smoothies and juices. Pop in for coffee, breakfast, or an all-day lunch in this welcoming and quirky space.

Organic Delicious Cafe is Morningside’s first organic cafe, serving fantastic vegetarian, vegan, raw and homemade fayre. It’s an organic juice and smoothie bar, serving breakfast lunch and coffee too.

The Forest Cafe is a volunteer-run arts/events space with a performance and workshop programme – it also has a great vegetarian cafe. The cafe is very reasonably priced, and they also have a good choice of vegan options.
