We had the pleasure of having lunch at Veeno on Rose Street. Having never been before, and not knowing what to expect, we instantly felt relaxed and welcome on arrival. It felt like an intimate setting, dark walls, easy listening music, and tables spaced far enough from the next to enjoy a comfortable conversation with your own dining party. And, if you enjoy people watching, the seats at the window facing out onto Rose Street are perfect for doing just that.
Veeno opened it’s doors on Rose Street in 2016, bringing Italian Aperitivo (the ritual of drinking, nibbling and relaxing after work) to Edinburgh. Veeno is a place where everyone can enjoy great wines and the most authentic Spuntini – platters of meats, cheeses and other appetisers imported from strictly selected Italian producers.
Set up by two Italians in Manchester in 2013, Veeno has grown to 14 wine cafes throughout the UK including locations like Leeds, Bristol, Liverpool and Brighton. Edinburgh is lucky enough to have the only Scottish restaurant so far.
Lunch Deal Menu
We were there to taste their new lunch deal offerings. A great choice of pizza or piattino with a wine, beer or soft drink for £10, or a salad or panino with a wine, beer or soft drink for £8. Now for a city centre restaurant, that is a superb price point.
We all opted for pizza so between us we tasted the vegan pizza, the margherita pizza and the nduja pizza, which is topped with spicy sausage. Here are the comments from our diners:-
Vegan pizza – delicious, the sweetest tomatoes that I have ever tasted on a pizza. And, the pizza base was perfect.
Margherita pizza – So good, couldn’t quite finish it all, and now can’t stop thinking about the two slices that I left behind – 10 out of 10.
Nduja pizza – the spice from the nduja sausage was infused throughout the pizza so each mouthful was a spicy delight. Really lovely – I am so happy with my choice, and would definitely choose the same again.
The Rest of the Menu
Outwith the lunch deal, the other food options are great, with vegetarian/vegan options on offer too, and you can even enjoy an Italian afternoon tea. Veeno is also child and dog friendly.
