We have passed the picturesque alley called Het Gebed zonder End which means “a prayer without end”, located between the Nes, the Oudezijds Voorburgwal and the Grimburgwal many times, and we are not sure why we have never noticed Kapitein Zeppos – it’s definitely not hard to miss with all of it’s bright colours – and, it’s certainly more fitting for the Mediterranean than Amsterdam.

This charming café-restaurant is housed in an historic building that was used for storing horse carriages during the 17th and 18th centuries, and later as a cigar factory in the early 1900s. It was also a monastery in the 15th century.

Kapitein Zeppos is a moment of stillness, and a hidden gem, right in the bustling center of Amsterdam. Here you can enjoy Mediterranean dishes and delicious beers, wines and cocktails. Or simply order a coffee and watch the world go by.

Tip – You can also do a Zeppos boat tour and hire Captain Marc van Gangelen to give you a tour with a difference, on Amsterdam’s beautiful canals.
