Fire Tech, the UK’s leading provider of tech education extra-curriculars, is launching in Edinburgh this summer. Deloitte Edinburgh recognises the need to equip young people with the digital skills they need to fully engage with their futures, and has generously offered Fire Tech office space overlooking the castle to run their tech summer holiday tech camps for 9-17-year-olds. As a result, Fire Tech can provide a number of free scholarship places to local students.
Designed to entertain and inspire young minds, Fire Tech’s camps combine summer fun with giving children and teens the tech know-how they’ll need to be the next generation of innovators. The camps give young people the opportunity to learn how to code computers and devices, engineer robots, design video games, create virtual reality experiences and more. Kids and teens get stuck into real tech, and work through different challenges to solve problems and create new worlds.
Developing a community of tech creators is especially urgent in Scotland, where there is a huge shortfall in the number of young people with the digital skills needed to drive the economy forward. Government officials from Skills Development Scotland (SDS), have warned there is a need to fill about 13,000 digital jobs every year and the pipeline of available talent falls short of meeting this number by some 8,000.
