Sewing classes and creative textile workshops for adults and children aged 8-12 years.
Recently voted ‘Best sewing classes in Edinburgh’, Artisan Stitch is close to the city centre. It’s run by Textile Designer/Artist, Jen Skedd who’s been sewing since she was 7 years old.
Sewing is an excellent activity for children’s mental and physical development. It aids hand/eye coordination, and manual dexterity. Following a project through from start to finish takes focus and concentration, and gives children a sense of achievement. But they don’t care about any of that as sewing is also really good fun. And because they’re having such a great time, they don’t realise that they’re learning valuable lifelong skills.
Children’s classes take place during half-term, Easter and Summer holidays or there’s after-school courses too. Class numbers are limited so each child receives lots of attention and is carefully supervised. Full PVG (Disclosure Scotland) certificate.
Adult’s classes at all levels run during weekdays, evenings and weekends with various Beginners and Dressmaking options. New for 2019, there’s a curtain-making workshop, or learn to make professional-quality cushions with zipped closures and piped edges.
Textile art workshops include free-motion embroidery, applique, print-making, mixed media and fabric upcycling.
